Are these broadly drawn and lurid scenarios? Sure.

1/ Since y'all are all too young to remember this, and since I was only 5 at the time, there's some ancient history here to be considered.

In the 1968 race, Roger Ailes told Nixon -- I'd have to look it up as to the exact date -- to pivot from Vietnam to the post-King riots.
2/ Nixon went full-on "law and order" not only as a signifier about African Americans but also about the hippy proto-Bernie Bros in Chicago.

Ailes knew a secret; "law and order" was a code for race *and* for culture anxiety in 1968. The Ailes campaign DNA is wired...
3/ ...deeply into Trump's brain. (And don't fool yourself; Bill Clinton leveraged it also) The language, the "Silent Majority" crap, the aggrieved culture war whining is 1968 with a modern beat.

He *wants* the coverage of burning buildings. He *wants* the cops v protesters.

1/ McConnell most certainly does not want to launch the Molly Hemingway/Donald Trump/Maga Horde idea to drag Obama and his administration before the Senate to investigate them over “Obamagate.”

Even Trump doesn’t really want it. It’s provocation and boob bait for his cult.
2/ Potential downsides are enormous. Trump allies in the Senate chasing their dicks while we’re in the middle of Great Depression 2 and COVID is a terrible look, Collins, McSally, Gardner, and even Tillis in the line of fire when none of them can afford it.
3/ Chance, of course, that Trump sees this as a great chapter his reality show and tries to force Mitch into doing it.

What could go wrong?

1/ I dove into the Trump media space to see how they're covering the Dr. Trump's disinfectant and UV light rant.

You'll be *shocked* that the gong farmers of the Trump media support squad are blaming...wait for it..."duh librual media."

3/ The hollow shell of conservatism in the post-Trump era is filled with nothing but cultlike adulation and hatred for the media.
