(THREAD) I wanted to point out how idiotic Trump's Executive Order regarding social media is. Please read the entire thread because it shows that his actions are completely ignorant and irresponsible, and will greatly harm American business. #thursdaymorning (1)
In response to Twitter fact-checking his tweets and what he perceives as social media's 'political bias,' Trump wants to disarm Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act. For those unaware, CDA 230 is what prevents you or I from holding any website responsible ... (2)
for the content that others' post. This includes social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, Reddit and Instagram, but also includes any platform that allows people, other than those who run those sites, to post content. (3)
This includes a very large portion of the Internet in general. CDA 230 is what prevents me from suing Twitter for defamation should some insane orange man decide to claim that I am a murderer, or from Facebook being held criminally liable for someone issuing... (4)
a death threat on their platform. CDA 230 is what has allowed the internet to thrive and dominate here in the United States. It's actually a big reason why the United States has the majority of the major internet companies. (5)
What is even more staggeringly ignorant is that, if we were to do away with CDA 230, then that would make Twitter responsible for what Trump tweets. When Trump spreads false information about Covid-19, which leads to someone drinking bleach... (6)
Twitter would be responsible and able to be litigated. When Trump accuses a TV personally of murder, Twitter would be responsible for defamation. When Trump incites violence via a Tweet, Twitter would possibly be criminally responsible for any deaths. (7)
It would leave Twitter no option but to BAN President Trump.

Some of you may wonder why I know so much about CDA 230, and that's because the Federal government put our family through hell and back, because my husband's business accidentally sold ads to a ponzi scheme. (8)
The government threatened to hold him responsible for the actions taken by the fraudster, but CDA 230 and the underlying laws of our First Amendment are what separated our family from complete devastation. You can read about it all here: ir.net/news/politics/…

It is very important to note that Section 230, however, was written not because lawmakers thought it would be a good idea to implement for the sake of implementing, but rather because the Communications Decency Act (CDA) was determined to abridge the First Amendment. (10)
Section 230 was added later, in order to bring an unconstitutional CDA in-line with the Constitution. (END THREAD)
