On the ground in Minneapolis for @townhallcom and surveying the damage from last night's riots in the aftermath of George Floyd's death. Looting is still occuring.
This is what it looks like to enter the now-looted Target in Minneapolis. It is completely trashed with garbage covering the floor and water on the ground from the sprinkler system being turned on. Plenty of people are still looting.
For those asking where the cops are, they are across the street protecting the 3rd precinct police building from a large crowd that's right outside.
This Target is just trashed. My Gortex boots are paying off.
Looted tobacco store near the third precinct's police building is also destroyed.
A restaurant nearby that says they are minority owned. Looks like it's untouched.
Crowd outside the the third precinct's police building chants, "Fuck the police! Fuck 'em!"
A man telling the crowd to try and remain peaceful outside the police building. He also said while they appreciate white people's support and showings of solidarity, "this is not your space."
People are now just screaming at the cops.
Protesters have blocked most of the intersection at East lake Street and Minnehaha ave. A group even dragged a cart collector from Target into the street.
Protesters forced this white driver to turn around. He tried to explain he was there to support the protest. One protester told him to leave his car in the middle of the road. When the driver said he wouldn't do that, the protester told him to "Get the fuck out of here!"
Someone, who looks like a member of Antifa, is cutting through the fencing around the 3rd precinct's police building.
Minneapolis protester with sign that reads: Pussies hide behind guns.
🚨🚨🚨Things have escalated as Minneapolis police moved in and rioters are starting to throw bottles and other items at the cop cars, resulting in police responding with tear gas and pepper spray.
A fight broke out as Minneapolis police were trying to evacuate an injured person. Got caught in the middle as police moved in.
A car is on fire in the Target's parking lot.
About to be on Laura Ingraham's show as the situation in Minneapolis devolves into a third night of riots outside the third precinct's building.
🚨🚨🚨: Rioters have torn down the fencing around the 3rd precinct's police building.
Another building has been set on fire near the 3rd precinct's police building.
Rioters have formed a makeshift barricade so that they can have cover as they continue to throw objects at police. Police continue to respond with tear gas and flashbangs.
🚨🚨🚨: Can't believe what I'm seeing the Minneapolis police has ABANDONED the 3rd precinct's building!! Rioters have stormed in the parking lot and are now damaging the building.
These were taken in the 3rd precinct's parking lot after police abandoned the building. Trying to get video up but my data is terrible in this area.
Rioters successfully opened one of the doors to the third precinct's building, but police had one surprise for them: they set off a ton of tear gas inside. The rioters quickly exited the building.
Rioters are adding fuel to the fire in the parking lot.
I've covered many protests/riots in my short time working in the media and I can say none of them (Charlottesville, D.C., Portland) comes close to what I'm seeing in Minneapolis right now.
The 3rd precinct building is now on fire. Rioters are celebrating and posing for pictures in front of the flames.
This is the moment when Minneapolis police officers abandoned the 3rd precinct building. Rioters chased them as they left and continued to throw objects at the police vehicles.
Because a few people have asked: I'm no longer near that area. I already left to go back to my hotel room and to start on my posts and video editing.
Forgot to say I appreciate everyone's concern and for reaching out to make sure I'm okay.
