Candace Owens isn't a mixed bag. She's a force of nature. She makes good points and bad. Eloquent, but frequently out of her depth. There's one consistent thread, though--every choice plays to her base. As such, she's become the answer to a shameful prayer on the partizan right 
Yesterday, she showed her hand several times in quick succession, ending with her deleting a tweet and blocking me. All that is well within her rights, of course. The pattern, however, was revealing, and those with wagons hitched to her star ought to reflect on the implications.
With 2 million+ followers, Owen's influence is as substantial as it is divisive, and her ascent contributes to the racial gulf that threatens us all. Candace is quick to label such observations with racially charged language. The proper term is 'a collective action problem'.
To be perfectly clear, we in the U.S. have a race problem, and there is no stable solution to be built on a slanted foundation. On those two points we should all be able to agree. Candace is not unique in playing a ruthless game for herself, but her partnerships make her powerful
Discovering the truth about our race problem is a delicate process, made impossible by de-individuation on the left, and a failure of inter-racial compassion on the right. Candace's role in this is obvious.
I have followed Candace with increasing alarm since her early days on YouTube. I warned Dave Rubin about her before the famous debacle with Candace and Blair on his program. It is ever more clear that my concerns were on target. As far as I know, Dave still does not see an issue.
I believe it was my "behind closed doors" warning to Rubin that Candace referred to yesterday. Fair warning: Dave is not the only person I tried to alert. I also voiced my concerns publicly. I see nothing dishonest or troubling about any of that. If anything, I feel vindicated.
Candace is entitled not to like me. Her blocking me means very little. I feel differently about her playing the race card and hinting she might be a damsel in distress with the word "creep". Seems to me she was wielding epithets to solve a problem of her own making.
I also find her broadcasting of screenshots that aren't damning, as if they were somehow damning, to be indicative of the deeper issue. I suspect she was hoping someone, a knight in shining armor, perhaps, would find a problem in them. She wanted someone else to do her homework.
And then there is the matter of deleting the tweet. On the one hand, she figured out that her behavior was visibly off. But as is typical, she failed to acknowledge any error.
We have a shockingly deep bench of rigorous, honorable, nuanced voices struggling to lead us to a richer understanding of our history and our various possible futures. Why would we invite this hyper-political dynamic to drag us backwards, against the arc of the moral universe?
