The details of Sadiq Khan's TfL bailout have now been published.

And it's not great for the Mayor.

- No Gov instruction to increase the congestion charge.

- Khan was already planning to hike fares last year.

- Appalling state of TfL's finances prior to lockdown.

THREAD 1/12
The Gov, DfT as well as the Mayor's own spokesman have now all confirmed that it was the Mayor's decision to increase and expand the congestion charge.

Nobody else's

On GMB last week, the Mayor himself admitted it had been his decision last week.

"It was us."

2/12
The terms of Khan's bailout now confirm that the Gov DID instruct Khan to restart the congestion charge, but they DID NOT instruct him to increase it.

The Mayor decided to immediately increase the congestion charge without a review - before blaming Gov for that decision.

3/12
I think this was a mistake.

The Mayor should not be raising taxes on London's key workers and businesses right now.

Crucially, more of the Mayor's political games have been exposed.

Sadiq Khan has claimed that the Gov forced him to increase fares, as a condition for his bailout.

But these documents prove that Khan confirmed that he made the decision to increase fares in DECEMBER 2019.

5/12
On page 38 of the document, it is confirmed that the Mayor agreed to raise fares by RPI+1% from January 2021 "as proposed in the TfL Business Plan."

The TfL Business Plan was approved by the Mayor in December 2019, six months ago.

See below.

And if that wasn't enough evidence that the Mayor planned to hike fares long before his bailout, this is an Evening Standard article where Sadiq Khan admits he will put up fares next year.

Published on 13 March 2020. Two months before his bailout.

The Sunday Telegraph exposed this hypocrisy last week.

Finally, the details of the TfL bailout also confirm one fact that the Mayor has been trying to hide.

Over the last 4 years, the Mayor has almost bankrupted TfL.

The poor state of TfL's finances were a huge contributing factor to the size and severity of the bailout.

9/12
In fact, this is a quote from the last statement from the Department for Transport made to the House of Commons, 10 days ago.

10/12
The full details of Khan's bailout now confirm just how bad the Gov think TfL's finances have become.

- Two Gov reps on the TfL board

- One special rep to attend all finance meetings

- An "immediate and broad-ranging" Gov-led review of TfL's structure, finances.

11/12
The Mayor is now trying to blame the government for his four years of financial mismanagement.

As well as his decision to quickly raise revenue by hiking the congestion charge on key workers and businesses.

But he can't hide from the facts.

Please share far and wide.
