As the Wellcome Trust Strategic Award in Medical Mycology and Fungal Immunology comes to an end the past and present directors would like to acknowledge the fantastic group of scientists in the WTSA MMFI consortium who made the partnership a resounding success.
The consortium involved 12 host institutions in the UK and the Radboud University in the Netherlands. There were 5 PDRAs, 3 clinical PhD fellows and 12 International Research scholarships for PhD studies funded through the WTSA.
Over the years the programme was expertly and smoothly run by our excellent administrators Karen Mcardle, Tehmina Amin, Wendy Pickford and latterly Dora Corzo-Leon and Taylor Coffey. We would like to thank everyone for their hard work and dedication to the WTSA over the years.
We are particularly proud of all the awardees who did their research projects within the consortium and have now moved on to the next steps in their careers. We hope we instilled in them an everlasting passion for all things fungal and we wish them every future success.
We thank all the project supervisors for the great team work and fruitful collaborations. As a result of this award, 182 manuscripts were published,7 fellowships were won by staff on the various training programmes and 6 trainees went on to secure permanent positions in the field
Finally we acknowledge the @wellcometrust for funding this unique training initiative which has promoted medical mycology globally and impacted enormously on the lives of our awardees especially those who returned to their home countries and are establishing their own research.
