Stephen Miller has a hand-picked network of allies across the federal government — and one of them just got a job as a top official at the Department of Homeland Security.

William Clark Barrow is the new DHS Executive Secretary. We obtained records that show Miller’s network previously tried to place Barrow at the Social Security Administration to “help with information-sharing issues.” 
This is especially notable because of the SSA’s role with a policy Miller has focused on — the public charge rule, which prevents immigrants who receive or are likely to receive government benefits from getting green cards.
In February 2018, ICE Senior Adviser Jon Feere sent an email to Miller with a resume attached for a position at the SSA. “A position of Senior Advisor or similar will ensure he has some clout over there.”
Although the names were redacted in one version of the email we obtained, a second version clearly shows this message going from Feere to Miller.
These emails and others were obtained by American Oversight and reported on by Rolling Stone in December 2019, and show how Miller has worked with advisers like Feere who share his far-right anti-immigration agenda.

Barrow instead moved from the Treasury to the Department of Commerce, where he was the associate director of the executive secretariat. Barrow’s new placement at DHS is concerning given his potentially closer involvement in immigration-related matters.
