"How much is a little girl worth?"

I asked that because, at the heart of every decision we make, is the weighing of the value of another person. A man, woman, child - a human being with intrinsic value and worth.

I grieve the most, that we got here at all. No, violence isn't the answer, but honestly ask yourselves - if these protests weren't happening, would you know Breonna's name?

Would no-knock warrants have been suspended? Would there be any assessments happening?
Would there be a new policy requiring officers to wear body cams when executing warrants?

Ask why there wasn't that policy before. And why it is limited to the execution of warrants now.
Breonna was a mamma's little girl. She was an EMT. Most importantly, she was a fellow human being.

How much is her life worth?

Worth asking the hard questions and hearing answers we don't want? Worth taking a stand? Worth crying for justice?
How much is a young woman worth?

Worth calling out the names of the officers who killed her? Worth recognizing her boyfriend had a right to defend against armed intruders bashing in the door in the middle of the night?

Worth justice?

Why did it take protests before any action?
We got here tonight, because she wasn't worth enough before. Not worth enough for a change in policy. Not worth enough to swiftly push for an independent investigation. Not worth enough to pursue and tell the truth. Not worth asking the hard questions.
Every time we make a decision, we pull out a scale, and on one side we put the interests we want to protect, and on the other, the people who pay the price. And we decide which one we value more.

How much is a little girl worth?
Breonna wasn't worth enough to those in authority.

Except in reality, her worth as a person is incalculable. Worth more than anything.

So we need to show it. Tonight. Tomorrow. Every day.

I'm a day late posting because... 4 kids :) But yesterday was Denim Day - the day we wear denim to remember and stand with a survivor in Italy who was raped at age 18 by her driving instructor. She reported it that day and went through the hell of trial. (thread)
But in 1999, just two years before I walked into Larry's office, the rapist's conviction was overturned by the Italian Supreme Court, using what became known as the "denim defense". The SC wrote that the 18 year old certainly could not have been raped, because of her jeans.
Skinny jeans, the male justices reasoned, couldn't be taken off unless the victim had helped. They wrote "it is a fact of common experience that it is nearly impossible to slip off tight jeans even partly without the active collaboration of the person who is wearing them."

USAG just offered a settlement that releases the USOPC, Steve Penny and the Karolyis from all liability and refuses ro address the extent to which USAG officials were aware of or concealed the predatory behavior of Nassar and others, including coaches.

There have been a lot of incredibly painful and outright disgusting moments since I let my abuse become international news because these organizations made it the only way to stop Larry. But today might be the worst.

Let's review what they want us to release:
In late 90s USAG tries to remove coaches CONVICTED of sexually abusing children, from being certified, and ban them.

USOPC THREATENED TO DECERTIFY USAG OVER THIS POLICY.

You read that right. The one time USAG tried to remove CONVICTED pedophiles, USOPC threatened to decertify.

And that is EXACTLY what the Baptist Press did to Jen Lyell when they reported her violent abuse as an affair, ruining her and letting a predator remain in ministry (to this day).

Why has there been no public rebuke of those men or calls to rally around Jen?
This is EXACTLY what the @baptistpress did to Debbie Vasquez, when they reported her violent rapes, resulting in a child at 17, as an affair. Ruining Debbie and leaving Dale Amyx in an SBC pastorate position for DECADES.
So if we care so much about this sin against our sisters, where is the public repentance and rebuke by the men directly involved ruining these precious sisters?

Where is the repentance for not IMMEDIATELY coming to their aid and standing against this sin?
