Look, it's DC, so I'm sure there's some dumb shit going down somewhere around here. But the protests today are overwhelmingly peaceful and responsible.
If you wanted to join the protests but were worried if it was the right thing to do, either because of covid or the risk of riots, please don't let that stop you. It's fine here! Write a sign on a cardboard box and join the brigade, or mask up and join the distanced marchers.
Things are different on H Street, but elsewhere the White House cop-to-protester ratio is laughable. That's not because there aren't protests going on or lots of protesters out – there are, they're just spread everywhere throughout the city.
Even in the crowded areas, although the social distancing falls short of adequate, it's not a public health nightmare.

But each and every one of you assholes without a mask should know I'm sitting here judging you.
Everything was going fine — pretty low key for a DC protest really — but the cops were spraying out pepper spray or something and lots of people booked it in a hurry.

Seemed extremely unnecessary from where I am. Everything calmed down again quickly though.
I am far away from wherever the cops are, but the constant pepper spray makes things very unpleasant even here.

I suspect that's part of whatever their strategy is. It's hard for the peaceful protestors to remain when breathing hurts.
