Something I’ve been trying to articulate; my friend posted this. These are her friend’s words, copied and pasted.

“Some of you may find it easy to look at the events of today and think they are all the same thing.

They are not.
There were three different groups on the streets of American cities today, and later tonight.

1. Demonstrators against recent grave injustices, and against a long history of racism.
2. Instigators and racial supremacists who use this scenario as an opportunity to create racially charged riots.

3. Looters who also use this scenario as an opportunity to commit theft.
It's important to know that these are three distinctly different groups with distinctly different objectives.
(If it is difficult to comprehend this, I invite you to imagine two different groups of people attending a single sports event. Both groups are there wishing for their own, if OPPOSITE, outcomes.)
Again. The objectives of these 3 groups are different. This is true even if some of the people in these groups are gathered in the same place at the same time. This is ALSO true even if SOME of the people align themselves (or claim to align themselves) with more than one group.
Lumping any two (or all) of the three groups I've outlined above into a SINGLE group is an unfortunate and common fallacy.

They look the same to you. They are disrupting your personal sense of normalcy. You conclude they are the same.

They are not.
Thankfully the clear distinction between them is being made clear by our local news reports.

I can only hope that other news sources will do same. But I also know that in the case of certain news sources with their own specific agenda, that is not likely.”
