My week in 13 tweets

This has been a particularly sad and challenging week for me and my colleagues as well as agencies under our ministry @FMHDSD.
On Tuesday May 26, 2020 I was in Maiduguri to commiserate and pay my condolences to victims and survivors of the Muna Albadawy IDP Camp fire
The tragic fire incident which occured on Saturday May 23, 2020 claimed 4 lives and razed valuable property. It was the 2nd such fire in an IDP camp in 2 months.
As I was on my way to Borno news came of another fire which affected the popular Ogbeogonogo market in Asaba. It consumed the livestock and textile sections with traders losing goods worth millions.
Then on Friday May 30, 2020 news of another fire incident at another market reached me. This time the Oloyele market in Shomolu Lagos was affected.
Relief materials have been sent and more are on their way to the victims to help cushion the effects of the devastation and their loss.
These incidents have been particularly saddening because they are happening at a time when many Nigerians are facing economic challenges exacerbated by the #COVID__19 pandemic.
I sympathise and condole with all those who lost property and loved ones and pray to God to comfort them.
I want to commend @nemanigeria and the State emergency agencies for their prompt intervention and response.
As a ministry we are very concerned about these fires and are therefore evolving new strategies for All- Hazard approach that will prioritize fire prevention and mitigation.
The Kajuru crisis in Kaduna is also cause for additional concern but I am gratified to see that @nemanigeria is on top of the situation.
On another tragic note, 60 Nigerians were attacked and killed by bandits in Sokoto. The security agencies are investigating while we are responding with relief materials.
On Thursday, May 28, 2020, I attended the inauguration of the steering committee for "The Clean Nigeria: Use the toilet" campaign. Chaired by HE @ProfOsinbajo to end open defecation in Nigeria by 2025.

Have a good weekend
