I’ve spent a lot of time over the last few days just walking in different environs, observing people, and thinking...a short thread 1/
2/ one of my fav #MedSchool profs was a Jewish man from NY. He came to TX by way of Miami COM.
3/ He was brash...and brilliant...a neurologist by trade. Day one, he told me to schlep his medical bag while we rounded together
4/ I told him, “Dr F, I respect you, but I’m paying this school to learn here. You carry your own damn bag”...and smiled a very friendly and lighthearted TX smile at him
5/ He immediately grinned back at me and said, “I like you, Erwin. You’re the 1st medical student that’s ever not just sclepped. BTW, where I come from, Erwin is a FIRST name!”😂
6/ so...back to my original reason for posting this. As I have been simply, walking, running, biking, and observing the last few days, I realized something that he taught me to observe: people’s gait
7/ some people walk w a swagger, some walk in a pressured way, while others saunter casually.

Most ppl, however, after a certain age, have a bit of “a hitch” in their gait- related to a back, joint, or neuro issue. Because of Dr F, I can recognize, generally, what is causing it.
8/ #MoralToTheThread : we are all walking the same path, but have different stories to be told in our gait.

Keep your eye upon that common path, and don’t judge- only appreciate- the gait
