Still no data how many of the 1,234,600 posted kits have actually been returned or processed in a timely fashion to be of any clinical use whatsoever. The tests need to be fast, accurate and followed through to trace and isolate contacts. 48 hour window.
Then mixed up diagnostic tests with 27,773 serology antibody “rear view mirror” tests that serve an entirely different function to assess who MIGHT have had COVID.

What a shambles.
I see Sir David Norgrove from the UK Stats Authority has responded unfavourably to Matt Hancock’s Magical Number Parade.

This is a really interesting read & quite revealing.

It would be interesting to know what SAGE members themselves would NOW consider to have been better strategies.

The reliance on evidence based decisions seems to have overtaken the need to press the pause button whilst unsure
A series of question are listed to help shape what we can extrapolate from the SAGE documents released so far.

What barriers were there to safe decision making and to what extent were there tensions between risk takers and those who are risk averse?

Was there “group think”?
Fear of a large second epidemic especially in a community without immunity was clearly a driving force behind suppression decisions.

On 13 March (post Cheltenham) there was unanimity on complete suppression being a bad thing, leaving the population vulnerable.

The stats serve neither the function of helping to understand the epidemic showing the characteristics and numbers of the persons infected (eg, age, occupation, sex, ethnicity, distribution across the country so we, GPS, local public health can see WHERE the flare up are).
I would say, to that end we need to know how many PEOPLE have tested positive, negative and also UNCLEAR given the unclears should be followed through super fast as the infection test window is closing fast.

They also can be a guide to other performance issues.

What was most noticeable about this press conference was what was missing. There were no slides on the current R rate, which you’d have imagined was a necessity on the day lockdown was eased. The slide on whether we were actually in stage 3 or 4 of the pandemic had also gone awol
