Black codes, pig laws, sundown ordinances, redlining, and racially restrictive covenants are all things that have been invented and used since the beginning of Jim Crow, and some still exist today that police use as justification, tacit authorization,...
...and guidelines for abuse against blacks.

They may go by different names now, but the application and net effects are the same. These things promote over policing of blacks even in their own communities.
They and others are tools of white privilege and need to be thoroughly examined and exposed if racism and police brutality are ever to be addressed in this nation.
This is just one small piece that helps to keep systemic and institutional racism in place. Many of these things are son steeped as norms that people don't recognize they their intended purpose is strictly racist.
Racism, by design, is deep, pervasive and complex, so as to dissuade those who would from attempting to unravel the system.
Many of the tools and mechanisms used are so steeped into societal practices and values that people often don't recognize the racially biased processes and disparate outcomes being promoted.
That's how normalization is intended to work. It is physically, emotionally and intellectually exhausting.
But it we're going to be partners to have serious discussions on race and work together to resolve the issues, they we have to have the courage and stamina to dig deeply into the issues,...
...the open minds to accept long denied truths, and the willingness to get out of our comfort zones.

Are we truly ready and courageous enough to have a serious discussion on race and face our deepest fears, weaknesses, and defects and overcome them?
