Yesterday was said to be a 'good news' day in the UK.

We should rejoice. The lockdown is - albeit cautiously - ending.

So... how come all of this also happened yesterday? THREAD. 1/11
Let's start with the data.

445 deaths were added to the figures yesterday... and not referred to in the daily briefing. See 2/11
Alok Sharma shows that he doesn't know that the testing figures, which refer to the number of tests and testing capacity, have not, for 8 days now, provided information on the *number of people* tested. We still don't know why. See 3/11
On the Govt's own 5 point threat level chart, we are 'somewhere between 3 and 4' and so, it seems, able to pick and choose the policy responses from all levels. See 4/
The policy response includes new guidance for the vulnerable... which seems to belong at level 1. There is more than a slight 'protective ring around care homes' flavour about the latest annoucements. See theguardian.com/world/2020/jun… 5/
The PHE report into the BAME effects of COVID were delayed yesterday because No 10 is worried about global events. Really? See

Meanwhile, full steam ahead with Brexit! Notwithstanding the catastrophic effects a combination of COVID and 'no deal' are likely to have. See

The law is changed via an urgency procedure, without Parliamentary scrutiny. See

Govt disdain for Parliament is confirmed by its plans to end remote voting (to be debated today). See 9/
And, yesterday also saw the publication of this from @sturdyAlex, on the early responses of the Govt to the pandemic. See

I dread to think what the rest of the week might bring.

This is not a time for rejoicing.

It is a time for the Govt to show that it can manage this 'critical phase'. If not, it simply invites a second wave. 11/11
I’m too busy to do this every day... but so far today we have had the HoC voting shambles, and also these ‘highlights’.
