I'm no longer invested in the improvement of the school system, or even commenting on what's wrong with it. Interacting with the materials I used for my last video has made me finally accept that the school system operates as it was designed to. It is designed to zombify us.
Here I was, trying to be a human being in the classroom, wondering about teachers who beat and insult their students, or who read notes like robots in class. Now I realize that they are the ones who understand what is to be done. It's me who didn't get the memo.
What now annoys me is not that the system is bad, but that I drank the kool aid. As I spent 2 years researching about CBC, calling KICD to account, I was still buying into the idea that schools are for our kids.

They are not. Schools are for government to turn us into zombies.
And that is why there will never be school equity. GoK can only afford so many bureaucrats. The rest of you who get schooled are a liability to them. GoK will stamp you as failures and spit you out.

I think we should do away with schools. And two other things.
1. We think of other ways to organize knowledge and education. Our ancestors used to consult the libraries in Timbuktu and Alexandria. So advancing in knowledge is not foreign to the continent. Jesus taught his disciples and the crowds without having walls and time tables.
Muslims have something to teach us on this front. They don't have denominations with headquarters. They don't have a chief imam like a pope. The faithful pray where they are. They can help us think how to de-institutionalize education.
2. Remove the timetables, lesson plans, certificates, curricula, exams and all that bureaucracy. No programs, no curricula. Restrict lessons to learning how to read. Then kids go home and work, and as they grow older, they look for someone to be a disciple to.
That would eliminate parents being at work as the reason kids go to school.

The only people for whom this wouldnt work are people in bullshit jobs and factory work. Because their work is designed to be done in different premises, which is what feeds the bureaucratic system.
But we can make manufacturing like subsistence farming - you have individual and local collective workshops, rather than industrial factories. Then the market distributes in the same way as it distributes mbogas.

And bullshit bureaucrats: you would have to get real work to do.
