They know it’s a self-own. They know you’ll retweet it. They know Twitter’s algorithm will convert that into prominence and new followers.

The right’s core strategy is to defend the indefensible with obviously self-defeating anti-logic in the knowledge their supporters will pretend they’re dumb enough to swallow it.

They all know it’s bullshit. They all know it’s just another lie.

When they get called out - they play the victim. “Just another LiBeRaL eLiTe calling all cOmMoN wOrKInG cLaSs pEOpLe stupid.”

Either way - the racists get what they want: attention and the false legitimacy of being “debated”.

Twitter’s algorithm considers this evidence that Sweden is a good driver of engagement.

Engagement means more ads viewed - so Twitter: gives all his tweets more prominence; makes him appear higher in search results; promotes him as a Suggested Follow; etc...

None of this has the context of your 27-thousandth identical dunk. It’s free clout.

He put out bait. You fell for it. He made you part of the problem.

And - yes - it’s @twitter that needs to fix this. But they won’t. We know they won’t.
