1/ My objection to our COVID response (in MA) is the rigid, unthinking application of the restrictions. Last night, my 19 y.o. suffered a seizure at midnight. He was unresponsive at first, incoherent,next and acting like I stroke victim. Here were the 911 policies:
2/ Neither my wife nor I could ride in the ambulance. We could not go into the ER with him. We could not visit. A kid, who started out unconscious, and progressing to dazed and incoherent, in an ER by himself. We had to communicate with the doctor via phone calls and texts.
3/ The hospital actually told us to go home. Go home? How about drive to the state house and beat the hell out of the governor instead? Or go across the street to the mayor's house and do the same. Go home?
4/ After two hours, he was coherent and stable enough for the doctor to call us with an update. Doctor suggested strongly there was nothing else to do except wait for tests and for us to go home and get some rest. We relented.
5/ In the meantime, he has had an MRI, an EEG and a CT scan. And 50 conversations with doctors, We've had one. Medicine via text or game of telephone is not optimal. We have been quarantined for 60 days. We are the same bloodline. Pretty sure our COVID risk has passed.
6/ And yet, rigid governmental policies make no allowances for real life. We did not help nursing home patients at all, we are doing nothing for people with real needs like autism, and our emergency room policies are just plain stupid.
7/ We all know people who had loved ones die alone in hospitals because of these lunatic restrictions. And yet for the past week, it was okay to gather by the thousands in close quarters to protest. How about we all protest the collective stupidity of our elected officials?
Someone tell me why I should pay my taxes on time or obey laws now? So some clown under a gold dome can take advice from three assholes from McKinsey that prevent people from dealing with real world stuff? I'm not talking about a dinner reservation.
