1) Part of how I'm thinking about the value of tech to help w/ global inequality — in 10 yrs from now, a huge amount of the value on the planet will be getting generated by new technologies that are now nonexistent or in nascent form
2) If we could tweak these new technologies so that their benefits were distributed in a more egalitarian way, then we'd have a fairer society 10 yrs from now , without redistributing any of current wealth and without requiring large changes in how people cope with legacy tech
3) This can be as obvious as low-cost solar power systems operating in a decentralized power grid ... or DIY CRISPR kits that can be used by physicians in third-tier developing-nation cities ...
4) .. or as funky as, say, making sure that the first really powerful quantum computers are able to be built in modestly priced chip fabs rather than needing
trillion dollar factories...
5) Not to mention crafting AI algorithms that can run effectively on decentralized infrastructure, not needing massive centralized server farms that only a few massive elite companies and governments can afford
6) Or making sure that brain-computer interfacing doesn't get rolled out as Google AdSense on the biological brain, but as something decentralized that gives the individual data sovereignty over the info mined from their brains...
7) Making and rolling out the right tech can't solve social problems on its own [well not until that "right tech" is superhuman AGI !!], but it can create a landscape in which the solution of social problems is much more tractable...
