1) I started poking around for a fairly comprehensive dynamical simulation model of the whole global financial s ystem. Government economic agencies seem not to have this from what I can tell.
2) Can you guess who are the only folks I chatted with who intimated they might possess such a thing? ... or at least something in that direction ... Yeah, some guys from Goldman Sachs, speaking off the record...
3) Holy information inequality Batman -- right? Having such a model gives the possessor a tremendous advantage in estimating the (absolute and conditional) probabilities of various future socioeconomic events
4) As a footnote, it's mildly amusing that one of our current US political contenders is the dude who made billions of USD creating a service that curates and organizes and streams a bunch of the info Goldman & others have used to create their proprietary global economic models
5) Bloomberg's philanthropic donations are admirable; but, err, what if he'd put a few billions into creating an open source global economic model and mechanisms & incentive structures for keeping it updated? This would have been a pretty cool use of his particular superpowers
6) I would imagine Bloomberg never even thought of this, because from what I can tell his fundamental orientation is not to think too much -- and definitely not with any ambition or imagination -- about the benefit of humankind and transhumankind
7) Bloomberg's labeling women as "horsey-faced lesbians" is typical Wall Street style humor (I had an office on Broad Street a few blocks away in the late 90s) and his role in systematically increasing information and wealth inequality is also obviously 100% typical Wall Street
8) Meanwhile, as the shitshows of global politics continue to entertain, Goldman and ilk continue to leverage Bloomberg's and other information services to build a better understanding of the global economy than any government has...
9) "The better to eat you with, my dear" .... And where are the global initiatives to create open, democratic socioeconomic knowledge bases and simulations models?
10) In theory, the crypto-economic sphere should be fostering and enabling such initiatives .. but the crypto world is mainly wrapped up with crass low-modest-scale speculative trading, regulatory hassles, scalability issues and mediocre crypto-network-based gaming...
11) And make no mistake -- the scaling issues of crypto networks are real, but would have been solved eons ago with a fraction of the systematically deployed resources of a Goldman or Amazon ...
12) TODA/IP for example is one route to a solution to crypto scaling but nobody has put in billions to rapidly deploy a full-on decentralized version (not that it will take remotely that much $$) ... why? because the folks with the billions don't WANT such a thing out there
13) OK, rant over for now. All these problems are overcome-able with merely heroic amounts of smarts, effort and coordination. We can do it. @singularity_net @toouufii
