This is perhaps one of the greatest examples of Rick endorsing positions or using rhetoric only when it's politically safe, convenient, and expedient to do so.

How cynical and disingenuous.
I've been researching Rick's record for months and months now. I can't tell you how many press releases, tweets, C-SPAN clips, articles, and records I've reviewed and let me tell you: this is the FIRST time he's EVER been this forthright about issues impacting people of color.
How many times has Rick Larsen mentioned Black Lives Matter? Zero. How many times has Rick Larsen mentioned police brutality in his two decades in Congress? Zero. How many bills in Congress does Rick co-sponsor that addresses police militarization or excessive use of force? Zero.
In fact, mentions of law enforcement or the police just seem to reveal posts from the Congressman boasting about endorsements from them:

On the flip side, mentions of Black people or African Americans are predominately just posts during #BlackHistoryMonth acknowledging milestones:
Furthermore you may notice that all of those tweets are made from TweetDeck, which means they were probably all prewritten by his staff and then scheduled to post at certain times: 11:30am, 5:00pm, 12:00pm, 2:15pm, 12:45pm.
Contrast that with other tweets made from his iPad, his Android phone, or from desktop at random times throughout the day and it becomes clear that Rick and his staff believe that every February scheduling a tweet about a Black first is about enough advocacy for them.
Currently, Rick co-sponsors 335 bills in the House. From my reading, I was unable to find a SINGLE ONE that addresses cop brutality or militarization. Not one. I'm willing to bet that pattern is consistent with the other TEN TERMS he's served.
But now that Trump's in office and it's no longer controversial to point out the very obvious abuses that cops regularly commit, he's suddenly open to the possibility of the idea to perhaps do, say, or sponsor something that would be punitive against the police for their actions.
But that's been his position on many other issues! Take minimum wage, for example. When @cmkshama was fighting for $15, Rick meekly supported $10.10, only to get behind a $15 minimum wage... last fucking year when it was politically safe to do so. (to be phased in by **2025**)
