We’re racist. We’re racist in the North of Ireland. This isn’t to say ROI isn’t racist, or Britain, but we have to realise we ourselves are traumatising the refugee/migrant/BAME people who live in our 6 counties. We’re xenophobic and we’re racist.
Our citizenship teacher of all people in my 1st year of school really hated the Irish travelling community as well, another marginalised group. She would talk out both sides of her mouth about them
I realise as well there are plenty of people who actually face racism in NI who have talked about this extensively, every day, and they’re scunnered like. We scunner them
Least we could do is try and listen now, and be MORE proactive.
It isn’t enough for us to not attack our neighbours, but I’ve seen recently the BLM movement in Belfast was hijacked by white careerists. Least we could do is give space back to the BAME people whose issues we claim to champion.

Not being funny but I loved my nana, she was still racist. Any of us talk to our parents/grandparents, and racist jokes are the norm at home even if we don’t take part. Like this is something useful we could be doing during lockdown/(and after) is talking more to our families.
