Let me say this (given the blowback I am receiving about my reactions to @JoeBiden speech yesterday): It was an important and, in places, powerful speech. He showed empathy in contrast to Trump’s callousness. He offered a thick description of how racism haunts the country. 1/
He put forward policies to address persistent racial inequality. And he was aspirational: offering a vision of who we can be as Americans. My only criticism was and remains directed at his policy response. We cannot tinker around the edges. 2/
We NEED a bold response that is at the scale of the extraordinary crisis we face as a nation. We can insist on getting Trump out of office AND push to have a transformative agenda. If we think that we have to choose between the two then we will remain on this damn hamster wheel.
