I usually don't do this. But given the times (and my recent graduation), I thought I'd reflect on racial microagressions I've experienced as a black male med student in training. So I made this thread compiling some of these instances below. 1/9

Told by a patient how great of an example I am setting because other black people are lazy. 3/9
Stopped by hospital security at the entrance while a white classmate in front of me was let through, sans I.D. 4/9
Professor greeted me by the wrong name in the middle of a lecture in front of the class. Never met her. Mixed me up with a black male colleague who she had in fact met. We don't look alike. This has happened many times with multiple different lecturers and attendings. 5/9
Walked into an operating room and was told by two residents that the room had already been cleaned. 6/9
Walked into a patient's room and was asked if I was there to empty the trash. 7/9
Told by an interviewer during a residency interview that my English was good for an African. 8/9
These are only the ones I remember but I'm sure there are more. All to say people label me before I start speaking. Helps show covert racism still permeate our institutions. And why antiracist approaches can help dismantle these systems in all aspects of our lives. 9/9
