The martyrs are never dead, they are forever in our hearts. Here is a thread of the events that occurred a year ago that led to the massacre of hundreds of peaceful protesters. *Viewer discretion advised *#SudanUprising #BlueForSudan #SudanMassacre
These peaceful protests began December of 2018 in the city of Atbara when the price of bread doubled in price. Most of the public can barely afford to feed their families due to the dictatorship that Omar Al Bashir was running for 30 years.
After month’s of torture and civil unrest the dictatorship was toppled after a coup occurred. The Vice President and his colleagues took over power and stepped down in less than 24 hrs after the protestors called for a complete change of the government.
The new Generals that were appointed into power were General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and warlord Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo “Hemetti”. Hemetti ran the military group know as the Rapid Support Forces “Janjaweed” who murdered and tortured thousands of people in the Darfur region.
On June 3rd (29th day of Ramadan) a massacre occurred where hundreds of people were rapped, beat, and murdered.
Peaceful protestors and I were marching towards the protest area when we got blocked off and met with heavy military force. We were tear gassed, beat, and shot at with *live* bullets. One of the protestors got severely hurt and we carried him into a neighbor’s house.
After a heavy military presence was on the streets abusing their power, we placed barricades and burned tires to not allow them to into our streets.
We had another Million March (when more than a million people protested peacefully) on June 30th when all of Sudan called for justice of the murdered and a civilian government.
Here is another video of the June 30th march. These kids voiced their opinion loud and clear and want a better future for themselves and their country.
We also marched towards that martyrs family’s homes to show family’s we haven’t forgotten about them and we demand justice for the victims
Also on June 30th me and my dad were outside a hospital to check up on one of his friends when the Janjaweed abused their power and smashed the back window when both of us were just sitting in the car peacefully
On July 5th after we thought the military was going to form a civilian led government we headed to the streets to celebrate. Only to know after a couple more hours that those talks were ended abruptly.
One of the martyr’s that died due to the Janjaweed had his mural painted in the city of Bahri. #blueformattar
July 13th we had another Million March to peacefully protest and call for action. We demanded FREEDOM, PEACE, and JUSTICE.
We then all headed into a park where he heard influential leaders spoke out about his the revolution and celebrated it.
The younger generation risked their life with us side by side to ensure their future and their country’s future will be the best it can be.
July 18th we marched peacefully toward a big demonstration site in the capital of Khartoum to voice our demands. We were also holding pictures of the martyrs who lost their lives fighting for all of our freedoms.
To ensure no harm was done to the peaceful protestors, pat-downs were setup on all surrounding entrances of the demonstration
On August 1st we held another Million March to voice our demands.
On August 3rd we celebrated the news that civilians were going to be incorporated into the government. These peaceful protestors were yelling and singing we got our civilian government.
On August 18th a train from the city Atbara came to the capital of Khartoum to celebrate the revolution.
This man celebrated with the younger generation as they brought change into his lifetime when he didn’t expect it to happen.
I want to give a shoutout to all Sudanese people around the world who held peaceful protests in their city’s to show their support. This video was shot in London saying “we are not afraid”, and they demanded FREEDOM, PEACE, and JUSTICE.
I want to thank @rihanna and many other influencers and politicians who showed their support to inform people of the injustice happening in Sudan.
I want to end by saying that the fight continues & peace & freedom has not yet been restored. We have a long way to go so continue raising awareness and never lose hope! You should also note this is not a perfect timeline of these events, these are only my personal experiences.
