Imagine being a Black player on the Saints & hearing the supposed leader of yr team completely fail to acknowledge that this country’s flag might mean something different to you than it does to him. To suggest that a peaceful protest bringing attention to that is “disrespectful.”
I’m from New Orleans, and Drew has done a lot of good work for the city on and off the field. But his consistent failure to consider the lived experiences of people other than himself when it comes to what the flag/this country means feels like it undermines his other efforts.
Even if you disagree, which I wish he didn’t, the *least* you could do is say you respect everyone’s individual choices and leave it at that. Especially in a moment like this.
