As a non-white person from an immigrant family, I'm not really privy to how racist white people are when they are by themselves. I know that I've experienced 0-3 cases of overt racism in my adult life and none involved white people.
But the eagerness of so many liberal whites to genuflect and confess suggests that maybe they really all are as secretly racist as they seem to want to confess to being.
Those demanding such confessions seem to offer the promise of absolution to those who make them (by excoriating as irredeemably tainted those who decline), but then of course simply use those statements to affirm the original accusation
The reality of course is that such confessions are intrinsically self-annulling: genuinely white supremacists societies would not make wealthy celebrities of those who accuse them of being white supremacist -- they would violently repress them.
And yet the act of annulment requires the sustenance of the underlying falsehood.
"The way to prove your innocence is to confess your guilt" is what captors and inquisitors do -- the interest to me is in a mass psychological phenomenon that uses only peer pressure to achieve what past outbreaks required far more coercive means to attain
