We’ve seen some shifting national polls recently but latest Welsh barometer marks v substantial decline in Tory support. Admittedly previous polling was historically stellar. Nonetheless if it keeps up, Lab will be feeling rosier about next year’s Senedd elections...
Not least because polling shows improvement in @MarkDrakeford’s numbers
Still- worth saying that if these numbers replicated for Senedd elections, they would be a considerably better peformance for the party than 2016 and their best ever

COVID AND DEMENTIA

Have spent the last few days looking into the situation with care, cover and dementia.

Dementia sufferers are dying at an alarming rate in this epidemic, one of the worst affected groups.

These are the reasons why and what could change it. (thread)
First some numbers

App 42% of all those who have died in a care home setting have Alzheimer’s or dementia.

25% of those who have died from cover overall have Dementia

Overall excess deaths for dementia patients have rocketed- 83% above normal in England in April.
And this isn't just about their vulnerability. Data from @alzheimerssoc and shared exclusively with Newsnight shows 79% of care home managers feel lockdown is damaging their dementia residents' physical health and wellbeing.

Grant Shapps: face coverings to be mandatory on public transport from 15th June.
Obvious question on face coverings is: if govt has concluded this will be beneficial- why not before?
Shapps clarifies: passengers on public transport will not be able to travel unless they have a face covering in England.
