We're on a press call! With @JoaquinCastrotx @SpeakerPelosi @SenSchumer @SenatorMenendez @SenatorDurbin @NydiaVelazquez, DACA recipient Luz Chavez Gonzales, TPS holder Elizabeth Valencia, on one year anniversary of #DreamandPromiseAct
@JoaquinCastrotx @SpeakerPelosi @SenSchumer @SenatorMenendez @SenatorDurbin @NydiaVelazquez .@JoaquinCastrotx: This is a manufactured crisis of cruelty. Congress does not need to wait for SCOTUS to determine the future of Dreamers. Their lives have been in limbo for too long. We must put pressure on Trump & Rs to do the right thing.
.@SpeakerPelosi: Millions of immigrants, including hundreds of thousands of DACA recipients, are risking heir lives on the front lines of the pandemic. They deserve our support. This moment highlights a need for justice in America, including justice for our immigrants.
.@SenSchumer: HR6 keeps families together and provides relief to those who live under the constant fear of deportation. Immigrants contribute to enriching our culture & communities. They are American on every way but on paper. And the majority of Americans are on our side.
.@SenatorMenendez: The Trump Admin has put DACA & TPS in their crosshairs. I urge Sen. maj to join us in passing #HR6 so recipients have permanent protections. It would be disastrous, a self-inflicting wound, to deport Dreamers & TPS holders. This is their home. They belong here.
Luz Chavez Gonzales, a DACA recipient: I first found out I was undocumented when I was a junior in high school. When I applied for DACA, my whole life changed. That's when I began organizing my community. Since COVID-19, I've become the sole provider of my household.
.@NydiaVelazquez: It's more important than ever before than #HR6 be passed and signed into law. During the COVID-19 pandemic, immigrants have been on the front lines. In NY, there are 12,500 TPS holders who hold essential jobs. They should not be living in fear & uncertainty.
TPS holder Elizabeth Valencia: I work in a nursing residence, in a COVID wing. That means I'm touching patients. I cannot drink water. But I really love what I do. If they take out TPS, I would have to do something else. And I've given my life to these residents.

The GOP escalates attack against inclusive, multiracial democracy in America

"The GOP’s relentless, scorched earth nativism is a core part of this story - from their ongoing efforts to end asylum & America’s proud commitment as a beacon of liberty to their reliance on white nativist conspiracies, such as ‘invasion’ & ‘replacement theory’." - @vcardenasDC
"After this week’s Roe bombshell, Republicans are taking things ever further, clearly emboldened to attack long-settled precedents & turn back the clock to a time when America’s version of an inclusive democracy was mostly limited to white, Christian, straight men."- @vcardenasDC

This week's leaked Supreme Court decision to overturn #RoeVWade underscores a reality that extends beyond abortion rights: Republicans are increasingly relying on the judiciary to advance an extreme, counter-majoritarian agenda on immigration

"We are moving quickly down a very slippery slope. As I’ve said before, the anti-immigrant judicial pipeline has been constructed by a very radical minority in the GOP to literally bypass the will of the majority of the American people." - @DavidLeopold
"Gov. Greg Abbott’s threat to resurrect Plyler v. Doe, the Supreme Court’s 40 year old decision guaranteeing undocumented children a public education, would have been laughable a week ago. No one is laughing now." - @DavidLeopold

"Jim Lamon’s ad is not funny, it’s dangerous. Lamon’s ad has the Arizona Republican candidate for Senator firing a gun at characters depicting President Biden, Speaker Pelosi and Senator Mark Kelly." - @FrankSharry

"The ad depicts violence against elected leaders and should be taken down immediately. It should be denounced by one and all, especially by his fellow Republicans." - @FrankSharry
"To add insult to injury, the ad shows a shot fired at @SenMarkKelly, whose wife @GabbyGiffords nearly died after being shot while performing her duties as an elected representative in Arizona. Disgusting." - @FrankSharry

HAPPENING NOW: Impacted Cameroonians and advocates will gather on a call to highlight the serious harm and human rights abuses experienced by Cameroonians denied asylum and deported by the United States.

#BringThemBack #DefendBlackImmigrants #BlackHistoryMonth
This is happening at a time when asylum policies and the treatment of Black immigrants are in the news and the U.S. is reportedly considering Temporary Protective Status (TPS) for Cameroon and other nations.

#BringThemBack #DefendBlackImmigrants #BlackHistoryMonth
Daniel Tse, Cameroonian community member and leader of the @CamAdvocacy:

"Human rights conditions have deteriorated in Cameroon... We've seen how the United States has responded by drastically reducing the rates that they were accepting asylums."

Florida Republican’s immigration bill crashes into an extreme anti-immigrant GOP

"Every few years, Republicans from purple districts introduce immigration bills that are designed for politics and optics, not as a good faith effort to broker a bipartisan breakthrough." - @vcardenasDC
"Their goal is always to muddy the waters about who’s to blame for the failure to enact long overdue reform legislation that is wildly popular among the American people but despised inside the Republican Party." - @vcardenasDC

"Forgive us for not jumping up and down at this 'news'." - @vcardenasDC in response to South Florida Republican Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar's introduction of “The Dignity Act"

bit.ly/3GEYPhI Image
"Two problems: First, her bill is full of bad ideas based on Republican messaging: like build-the-wall, gut asylum and more border patrol." - @vcardenasDC
"Moreover, insisting that the border is declared 'fully secure' before pursuing overdue legalization measures when many Republicans have demonstrated that they will never declare the border is secure, is a recipe for enforcement without legalization." - @vcardenasDC
