Reformists are deeply invested in the police state. When crime rates go up, they tell us to spend more money on cops. When cop terrorism, assaults, and killings go up…they tell us to spend more money on cops. For them, the answer to bad policing is more policing.

Thankfully, a lot of people are now starting to recognize the inherent contradiction of "police reform" and are calling for defunding the police. That's a necessary first step, but if we want truly safe communities, we need to work towards #abolition.
Yes, a world without an armed, state-funded, white supremacist gang terrorizing Negroes is a scary world indeed, but I promise you, it's possible. Abolitionists have been writing about this subject for years. Here's some reading to get you started:

But back to cops. Here's a policy idea I'm sure abolitionists and reformists can agree on: holding police financially accountable.
Every time a cop brutalizes or kills someone, 1% of their budget gets chopped. I promise you cops would defund *themselves* by the end of the year.

Another idea: BDS but for for police. Boycott (protest) police. Divest from police. Sanction police.
