So @nytimes is rowing back on printing @SenTomCotton scandalous call for troops on American streets. Good. But its not just the words he wrote, but the links the Times helpfully inserted, that need to be pulled - here's what any UK sub-editor would have done... 1/ Opening par:
2/ Second par full of tendentious claims and NYT-added colour via HTML...
3/ Fourth par full of claims he cannot stand up (and neither could the NYT)...
4/ And here's where any chief sub-editor or comment desk editor on a liberal British newspaper/magazine would have paused for breath, if people were literally dying, being jailed, their readers outraged...
5/ The reason the NYT's editorial standards were not followed is not known. Here's their explanation. Meanwhile huge and justified newsroom anger. Screenshot Cotton's article because it's headed for the Wayback machine. nytimes.com/2020/06/04/bus…
