Right. Like @PublishersWkly remember that year I was a star watch honoree and I capitalized Black in an interview and you changed it and I cited CMS and you were hella rude and kept telling me, an editor, it had to be lowercase.

(I still have those emails, don’t worry)
Or haha when you forgot to mention my name, one of the few black people honorees, at the party that was for us or how you snubbed @Sj_Fennell who literally created a major book festival for literacy in the Bronx while being a publicist and instead gave the award to white ppl
Or haha when your editorial director tried to apologize to me while reeking of alcohol and got my name wrong and then said you were glad I had poise unlike Serena (you said Selena) Williams and handled it well 🙃
And then you kept emailing my boss trying to get me to meet with you so you could apologize again putting me in the position of having to explain to her again and again why I didn’t want to sit down with some white guy to absolve his guilt
Maybe as a first step you should get a new editorial director and replace him with a Black person who can write and hire whatever the fuck they want
We “love” to see solidarity and commitments AFTER the fact, smh. You’re crappy at reporting on poc stuff. You get facts wrong on stuff about @PocPub (stuff I had to tell you about otherwise you wouldn’t have known bc you don’t reach out to “diverse orgs” regularly) ALL the time
Also gosh the burden of being one of the few poc at @PublishersWkly and then being told you must write about racial and social justice issues. Clearly you’re not listening to Black people because this ain’t it
Lol of course I threaded about it on twitter
Emailing probably isn’t accurate bc y’all were friends so that made it all the worse having to tell someone my boss likes hey please don’t send white guilt apology flowers to my office... oh you sent the flowers anyway. Great. Thanks.
Looking back at the date wow, this was right before I decided that I needed to quit my job as an editor. That year was just a lot of moments of racial frustrations like this + I felt I wasn’t able to acquire books that reflected me and yeah. dark times.
It’s important to note I was the 3rd black editor working in Children’s books to leave that year alone. And you wonder why the current number is 1% of editors being black...
