Bhadarwah is known for Naga Cult. between 8th and 9th Vikram Samvant, Chandervanshi King of Bhadarwah, Maharaja Dhuri Pal initiated the construction of Vasuki Naag temple at Vasak Dhera in his kingdom.A beautiful sculpture, of Vasuki Naag ji made by ancestors of Shanu samuday.
Unfortunately, even after many attempts king failed to establish this idols in the temple.
Disheartened King called priests (pujaris/Chaelas) to give their opinion. They all told the king,there dwells a Evil soul & a Brahmin should be sacrificed so that "Evil" leaves Vasak dhera.

The King was worried thinking how can he sacrifice one of his own people,then one of the consultants of King (A Brahmin from village Manva) suggested to catch one of the Brahmin brothers (Dev raj &Bodh raj) who had recently arrived to Bhadarwah from Kanjroor Dutta,Siyalkot.
King ordered his soldier to get of one of the brothers so that vasak dhera could get rid of the evil and people can establish the idol of their beloved Vasuki nag ji. So,the soldiers went to the place where both the brothers had camped recently....
The soldier thought he would cut the head of the Brahmin and present it to the King,get all the praises from the king & people.
One of the Brahmin brothers (Bodh Raj ji) was in Sandhya meditation.
As the soldier pulled up the sword to cut down his head his hands got stuck in air.

When the Brahmin woke up from his meditation, he asked the soldier why he is trying to kill him. (Meanwhile Dev raj ji also returned to the camp from the jungles)

On reaching the court, Sh. Bodh Raj Dutt wished to know about all the matter. King recited everything to both the brothers are asked them to help him and his people. Sh. Bodh Raj Dutt offered to sacrifice himself on one condition...
he said“I will cut my head with the drub grass after that as far as my body walks all that land will be given to his brother & will be passed on in his family & no person shall stop his body ”. The King agreed thinking how far will a body without head will be able to walk.
On 2nd of Phalgun, Raevti Nexetra, Sukla Pakh, 8th Vikrmi Samvant, Sh. Bodh Raj ji cut his head with drub grass(some people say it was kusha grass). After the sacrifice ceremony the headless body awaked up and started walking in the Kingdom Bhadarwah.
His body covered many miles and King realized that he had committed a mistake & misunderstood the power of saint. But now the situation was not in his hand, he started worshiping Vasuki Naag ji to come to his aid ,as his kingdom was under threat.
It was in agreement that no person will stop his body. So Vasuki Naag ji appeared in the form of cow and stopped saint’s body at Pasri near 18 armed deity temple

Unhappy with this Dev Raj ji after the last rituals he declared that his families will not entre Vasuki Temple for any prayer, will not accept any offerings in the form of Prasadum or Charanamrat &will not eat food from or with people of Vasak dhera.(c/a Cheenna ritual)
The priests mark OM & TRIDENT on the doors of the Vasuki Temple, all the Houses in the vicinity of Vasak Dhera & Royal Treasure using the soil collected each year from the site of the cremation of the body of Sh. Bodh Raj Dutt.
These statements became rituals for both the communities i.e Dutt family of Chanote, Bhadarwah (Jammu) , people of vasak dhera and priests of Vasuki Naag. Even
today ,in 21st century,the same rituals are being followed with same energy & sentiments by both the communities.

Since then, this temple has seen many earthquakes and what not but these idols stand strong.
