It is really amusing when blacks & Africans in particular, in a bid to sound unbiased, go extra mile to demonize Barack Obama & fabricate narratives to support it. It’s okay to not like him or Dems, but I’ll tell you what happens when you do this without depth. Thread
First, Obama was far from perfect. As everyone is. But Obama earned himself a high place amongst American leaders, not because he is black, but because he was regarded as a good, but not perfect AMERICAN President (not African). And why is this? Topmost was reviving the economy.
Another for his legacies on human rights, notable amongst which was LGBT rights which Africans weaponise to demonize him. He ended combat in Afghanistan & IRAQ, & facilitated the Paris climate change agreement, etc. Even most remarkably, he was scandal free for 8years.
For a country that has witnessed bloody & cruel segregation against blacks & a historical belief that blacks represented irresponsiblilty, violence, drugs & had no capacity for leadership; producing a scandal free 2 term President is a big plus to the dignity of blacks globally.
Obama didn’t stop visa lottery to Nigerians, nothing can be more ridiculous and ignorant. Nigeria simply became unqualified. A google search will show why. Even if he did, his job was to be US President, not Nigerian stooge. Besides, other African countries still benefit.
Obama also created & supported many other African initiatives, amongst which is the Mandela Washington Fellowship that invested in and empowered thousands of African youths. Libya was a US decision & mistake. Simple. When blacks fabricate data to demonize him, you do 4 things:
1. You reinforce the racist belief that a black should never have been President
2. You reinforce the belief that Africans don’t read or have the range to constructively analyse his Presidency
3. You sound silly for blaming him for Africa’s issues
4 You turn history on its head
James Grossman, executive director of the American Historical Association ranked Obama amongst the Top8 US Presidents. He wasn’t a perfect leader, but please, quit this watery effort to demonize him with bogus data that ridicules our dignity & thought process as Africans. End
PS: Libya & Syria were disasters. Just as Iraq & Afghanistan were disasters under Bush. It’s okay to condemn this as a US policy under Obama admin, as simple as that. What is NOT okay is to analyse it from an Obama is an African & shouldn’t have done that to Africa perspective.
