As I read reports about some people in America wanting to disband police force, I am intrigued. After 100 years, America is going through a real existential crisis. To dismiss it merely as racial tension is over simplifying it. The legitimacy of ‘liberal democracy’ is in question
Any State that does not prioritize strict law and order will disintegrate. Lawlessness never made any society great. The attraction for anarchy exists only till anarchists tear your home down.
Anarchists, Neo-communists, Islamists flourish in lawlessness. They settle issues in streets with violence. Liberal democracy was supposed to prevent it, instead liberal democracy became a tool in the hands of anarchists.
Going forward here is what liberal democracies have to deal with- Democracy will almost always give rise to identity politics, identity politics will almost always give rise to faultlines, and faultlines will almost always find aggrieved people. How will you deal with this?
Look at the debate that is going on in NYT and now made public by NYT staffers. NYT publishes an oped by Taliban chief and defends it using FOE principle. Fails to extend the same principle to US senator. Doesn’t understand Oped, editorial and front page reporting are different
America needs a sensible Conservative movement. America needs a Reagan.
