Moving between European education systems a lot, I learned about Belgian colonialism & slavery in the US in German high school, British colonialism in college in France & French colonialism at a British university.
If you’re European and think racism is primarily a US problem, that’s probably bc you don't personally experience it, but also because our education systematically ignores our own countries’ history of racialised violence. Pointing the finger is much easier than self-examination.
The same is true for reporting on police violence against PoCs - always easier to point to the US and how bad things are there. Changing these things is hard, long-term work, not just today. So look for & support the PoC activists near you who’ve been working on that for years!
