In early 2014 patrons of a Burger King restaurant on Pittsburgh’s South Side began reporting suspicious food and behavior from employees. Internet sleuths and local reporters quickly descended on the scene
Now to be clear, this Burger King, regardless of its legitimacy has always sucked, even more than burger kings normally do. The covered drive through in an alley has always reminded me of those drive up funeral homes.
People on reddit started sharing pictures of their meals which appeared to be packaged in plain paper bags, Dixie cups, and served on generic brand buns.
Customers alleged that employees were buying food from the local grocery store and reselling it, a scheme of dubious economic feasibility. Unconfirmed sightings of people in Burger King uniforms spotted in the frozen patty aisle abounded.
Eventually local dirtbag news station WPXI took up the case, revealing that the franchise’s license had been revoked several months back. Like Japanese holdouts on a pacific island, employees refused to give up the cause, continuing to serve subpar food in service to their liege.
Employees continued to wear their uniforms even as supplies of corporate branded merchandise ran out, even allegedly stealing promotional material from other stores to keep up the charade.
After the story was picked up by Yahoo and several other larger outlets Burger King corporate stepped in and bought out the location, bringing it in line with the BK brand: a chain that serves food covered in ants to children
