A thread: I’m hearing from pastors that “racists aren’t welcome!” At their churches. I get and agree that racism isn’t and shouldn’t be welcomed in the body of Christ... but since racism is a sin and all of us are sinners who have fallen short of the glory of God then...
who else will y’all turn away? You can’t have a church that all looks and sounds the same. You can’t have a church who turns away post abortive women, men fighting porn addiction, sex workers who need help, drug addicts, broken marriages etc...
God views all sin and brokenness the same. So why are we now allowing pastors to pick and choose which sins are worse and which sinners are and are not allowed?
How are we going to change the world and baptize them into miraculous grace in a faith that I know can and has changed people if we kick them out the door?
Do you allow racist acts in the church? Of course not. But you must invite in the racists to preach them the gospel and change their hearts and minds through the power of God.
“In Christ Jesus you are all sons of God, through faith. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus” (Galatians 3:26–28).
God doesn’t treat or view us differently because of our race or money or gender or issues...
He sent Jesus to save ALL
Saving all cont. “There is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him” (Romans 10:12). His grace is for all...
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16). We are ONE in Christ...
“He himself is our peace, who has made us both one and has broken down in his flesh the dividing wall of hostility” (Eph. 2:14).“In one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—Jews or Greeks, slaves or free—and all were made to drink of one Spirit” (1 Cor. 12:13).
Which leads me to another concern I have with the phrase “no lives matter until black lives matter...” Jesus never said this of Jews who were His people and treated as second class citizens in that time. He came to save us all. He broke barriers by preaching to Jews and gentiles
He was and is the main unifier of our age, not a divider. He called out everyone!!! He didn’t specifically target only a certain group or person or ethnic group. Peter (the cornerstone of the Church) told his fellow Jewish Christians that God “made no distinctions” between them.
It’s hard... I KNOW it’s hard... heck, I’m married and have in laws and work in politics for a living... BUT WE ARE CALLED TO LOVE ALL PEOPLE UNCONDITIONALLY!!!
I tweeted the other day that I’d like to hear through the grapevine about someone who attended a march and DIDNT post about it. Because to me, that person cares about the cause and not the virtue signaling of it all.
This made me think and re-read some Bonhoeffer and Lewis. This sticks out from Mere Christianity...
“If anyone would like to acquire humility, I can, I think, tell him the first step. The 1st step is to realize that one is proud. And a biggish step, too. At least, nothing whatever can be done before it. If you think you are not conceited, it means you are very conceited indeed”
Racism seems like a way to feel superior to others and people who post all about how they’re better than you or me for doing x, y or z seem to be making themselves feel superior to others which is wrong and a sin too... #justsayin
Not saying to not stand up for what you believe in. And I’m not saying to not post about it on social media... I get that we live in an age where this is a major platform with incredible reach... but I am saying to consider the “why” behind your post and take real action.
ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS FOLKS. You’re free to critique, question and criticize this entire thread... these are just thoughts I had to put down while nursing a baby at 5am. Thank goodness twitter allows us to do this now.. if only they’d give us an edit button.
I’m no theologian, I’m no genius. In fact, I’m a college drop out. But I am a woman, wife, mom, sister, daughter and friend who strives to help those in need and live my life in a Christlike way who’s bothered by what I’m seeing amongst fellow Christians. End rant.
If we do not bring Christ’s love with us wherever we go how are we going to stop racism and violence???
