Here is a summary thread of today’s #COVID19AB update. Today’s numbers reflect the past 48hrs. 6,698 Albertans have recovered leaving 355 active cases. 44 people are hospitalized with 6 in ICUs. There are 64 new cases out of 11,025 tests. We’ve now surpassed 300,000 tests. (1/11)
We now have results for the asymptomatic testing we have been offering since May 12, we will provide these numbers weekly going forward. We have processed 14,853 tests and only 6 have been positive. (2/11)
We have confirmed 3 additional deaths, bringing the total number of lives lost to 149. I extend my condolences to the friends and families of these individuals as well as anyone grieving the loss of a loved one from any cause. (3/11)
Over the weekend, we were alerted to a number of cases linked with Sofina Foods in Edmonton. 6 cases have been confirmed – all cases & close contacts are isolating at home. With AHS, the facility has implemented outbreak protocols & site-wide testing is being arranged. (4/11)
These cases & ongoing spread from several social events over the past few weeks are part of a small jump in Edmonton COVID-19 cases. I know it’s tempting to relax precautions, but it’s critical we continue to take steps to protect our communities. (5/11)
This weekend, we saw many participate in demonstrations against racism. I commend those who wore masks & stayed 2m away from others. The freedom to protest is a critical one, & yet we face a challenge in this time of pandemic to do so without risking super spreader events. (6/11)
I want to encourage all who attended protests to go for COVID-19 testing, whether or not you have symptoms. Contact tracing is extremely difficult in large crowds such as this, so please also be mindful of your actions in the coming 2 weeks. (7/11)
As of this morning, I have allowed both the Calgary Flames and Edmonton Oilers to resume practicing at their home arenas with public health measures in place. (8/11)
I know many are looking forward to reopening & getting back to some sort of normalcy. As we prepare, it’s critical to work together to prevent spread. Our rates of hospitalization and other metrics remain stable & our daily cases are not currently showing a large spike. (9/11)
The past few months have been difficult for many of us. The mental health of Albertans is something I am very concerned about. If you feel you have nowhere to turn, please call the AHS Mental Health Help Line at 1-877-303-2642. Supports are available. (10/11)
I encourage you to share about your COVID-19 experience through a confidential survey. Please visit hqca.ca to take the survey. Today is also the start of National Blood Donor week. Please consider donating by visiting blood.ca (11/11)
