Maybe it will help you better understand what a narrative is if you think of a narrative as a movie. The big narratives are like the big blockbuster summer movies. The fake media are the studios and theaters that pay and push things to generate excitement and buzz for the movie.
The movie is released and as with all movies some narratives do well and catch on and others quickly flop. However, by the end of summer, if you remember the movie at all, you only remember a couple of the more memorable parts or lines. The same is true for the narrative.
Sure, you might buy the DVD or rent it again and if it's a really good movie you might rewatch it from time to time after that, but the movie has a very small chance of changing your day to day reality or changing your core values. It's a movie/narrative after all. It's escapism.
And as with all movies, narratives are basically the same story told in a different way. If you don't like the story the first time it's told you aren't going to like it told in a different way. If Hamlet bores you to tears as a shakespearean play, it will probably bore you to
..tears as a movie called Strange Brew or the Lion King. If instead you enjoyed Hamlet and the ideas behind it, you will most likely enjoy those movies no matter how the material is presented.
*one final thought* The "conservative talking heads" are the film critics in this. They feed off the movies. They may dislike them and pick apart the plot but all they talk about is the current movie. Thus, making sure the movie gets more attention. I want conservative filmmakers
