Yesterday I asked local community via Facebook what they wanted to with the Robert Milligan statue after several days of discussion
I posted a poll with a number of options after providing some context, which had also been discussed in other comments
See pictures below of post
1/
The option with the highest support was to add plaques to the statue explaining the context & asking people to visit the slavery section of the museum a few steps away 551 votes
320 people supported removal
142 people wanted to to move it inside the museum
See pic for rest

It is a Grade 1 listed conservation asset so I had assumed a public discussion/planning application in advance of any changes so had hoped the poll and the debate would inform that debate @CanalRiverTrust, @MayorJohnBiggs, @MuseumofLondon
Clear majority support for a change

My preference was to add plaques explaining the context & asking people to visit the slavery section of the museum + add another memorial next to statue about slave trade (something like this pic of a slave ship)
I hope that in the rush to remove we consider poll results

Statue is on West India Quay next to the London Docklands Museum
More background of the statue & Robert Milligan here
Of note statue says nothing about slavery or his role in it
