Both RM48 & RM49 fitted with 153 HP Gardner diesel engines c. 1941. This changed their appearance, sloping front & radiator under the windscreen at the front.

In 1952 RM49 used for a speed test Bris to Toowoomba. Net run time was 2 hours 26 mins.
The Westlander (2018 timetable) takes 3 hours 50 mins.

Chrome plated grill removed.
The rail motors were part of the rail motor evolution. Speed test probably helped QR obtain 1900 & 2000 class rail motors few years later.
Withdrawn 1960s presumably scrapped.
