NEW: The federal judge appointed to act as a "friend of the court" in the Michael Flynn case says the Justice Department's decision to drop the case into Flynn should be denied.

He cites "highly irregular conduct" by prosecutors "to benefit a political ally of the President.”
MORE: Judge John Gleeson says the newly stated view by the Justice Department that Flynn didn't violate law against false statements is contradicted by the position it has taken in similar cases and earlier filings in the Flynn case itself.
