Alex de Waal: conversed how these countries lacked lockdown strategies and how they cannot control the pandemic. Hang-on, that was the feeling of everybody! He added ‘their’ lockdown was politically motivated:

...authorities wanted to achieve specific goals while disguising under WHO’s guidelines. However, he did not elaborate on what, how or why. Amid the audiences were waiting for explanations, he began comparing incomparable: nobody would expect the likes of

...“China and South-Korea” strategy or expecting from them to manage the pandemic as such. With that, not only deficient in the insightfulness, it also lacked to comprehend the (1) WHO standards and the pandemic control procedures.
5/
...(2) the extent of how the developed countries have (which his claims blind spot: the USA, UK, and the Netherlands) struggled to manage the virus, which he missed to account. Take on – his assertions were underpinned by the notion of us (better) than them.

Nisar Majid spoke about the aspects of COVID-19 and how it is affecting the Somali economies. Like Mazen and Rim, his limitations were exposed during Q&A. On a question relating to the difficulties faced by the remittance of the people of Minnesota, he had to
7/
...extrapolate how are roots of the Somali diasporas of a particular country linked to one specific region. He claimed, “since the UK had colonised northern Somalia”, most o the Somalis in the UK have northern roots, and the same thing applies to Minnesota.

...In a question of failure/collapsed states; even though he expressed the scholarly debates of these terms, he has claimed about the excellent governance in Puntland and Somaliland. Take on - his answers were obsolete with loaded words and typecasts.

Khalif Abdirahman; after the Somali’s uproar, for their lack of representations, LSE had to update the panellist & included a Somali. It was, understandable that Khalif found it challenging as he did not have time for preparations. Thence, he seemed to be a street person

...In the opening remarks and Q&A; he was all over the places: from food security to remittance (local and diaspora remittance) and economy elections and political bickerings. He failed to conceptualise the area of debate. On a question of the Somali’s announcement of ..

...reopening flights to coming in/out of Somalia, his answers were astounding. He could not elaborate about the travels while other countries did not open borders or reasons for opening. He could only say “they are opening for the Khat to come or politicians go around.” ...
12/
...Take on – though applauded for his inclusion, he seemed a layman.
13/
Mazen Gharibah and Rim Turkmani: briefly conversed about Syrian situation on COVID-19. Each one has enjoyed a good ten minutes of deliberations of the topic they prepared. However, the trouble started at the Q&A session: ...

...they (though it was Mazen who gave answered the most, and Rim just seated back). Take on - they were adrift from the discourse and slightly turned out to be activities.
15/
Jessica Watkins: congratulating for her excellence leadership. She controlled panellists, echoed some questions which the panellist attempted ditching it. Take on – Well done!

Overall, The event was below the standard. At least my expectations from the prestigious #LSE was not met. That said, I commemorate bringing (a) Somalia issues into the spotlight (b) inclusion of a Somali voice, though last minute.
