We cannot have it both ways: open society in the middle of a pandemic and refuse to do the hard work at the public health and public level to prevent new infections.
Around 1000 Americans still die every day from this disease. We have just become numb to it.
None of us wanted to find ourselves in this moment in history. But here we are. No acceptance of a conspiracy theory, no finding of new villains, no recounting of numbers, no new mathematical model will make this virus go away. This is happening to us. This is real.
And it will require commitment and hard work at the level of the national, local and individual level for us to combat this.

It will require some level of individual sacrifice, some compromise and tons of hard work for us to keep society open to some semblance of normalcy.
We all ache for normal in this moment. It’s so easy to forget it’s happening, deny it’s happening. But people are still dying of this everyday, now just in different places than before.
WE made things better than what the models predicted by basically shutting down society. WE have the power to keep society open by making uncomfortable changes to our routines so that more of us can live to see 2021.
We cannot stay indoors. We can’t stay home for another year. Let’s instead at least agree that this is happening & our actions affect others. Let’s make a commitment to make safer choices as we start moving about again. Let’s limit the damage we can each cause.
Let’s hold our government officials responsible for providing the infrastructure to allow us to start society again.

Let’s hold businesses responsible for keeping us safe when we engage in commerce again.

Let’s hold each other responsible for safer behavior.
Just adding on here to say-- and that's exactly where we are headed right now. We do the hard work now or we accept the consequences and shelter in place again. Lockdowns off and on may be our new reality.
