I always feel safer when a police helicopter is circling at minimum altitude. (It’s 500ft above ground level.)
It’s spiralled down over the track into Bunjaree.
In the valley just below, actually.
The phone camera’s wide angle doesn’t really highlight how low it is. Red and blues are flashing.
Something is Going On.
We’ve just had a cop at the door. No, it is not about this “recent spate of flower thefts”...
He said that back in May there was a road accident just up on Railway Parade, and words to the effect that not everyone has been accounted for. And that there’s nothing for us to worry about, it’s all routine. With a helicopter and a door to door search.
Around and around they go.
Chonka chonka chonka…
And the police helicopter is gone. My blue dot is 2795ft elevation. Down in the valley it’s about 2650ft. The helicopter’s search operations were at 2850ft and well below.
As an aside, “Aerial surveillance technique can find dead bodies decades after their burial” (2010). abcnews.go.com/Technology/tec…
So this police search from Thursday? Today it’s turned into a ground search with State Emergency Services and Rural Fire Service rescue teams. So I guess they’re pretty sure there’s a body just down in the valley.
... and this is what they did with the helicopter on Thursday.

(Further research indicated that the police helicopter was probably more at 200 to 300ft altitude down in the valley most of the time.)

Police Rescue has turned up with a team of SES volunteers. Cops said they’ve got 40 people working the valley today.
As an aside, one of the Police Rescue guys (not shown) really was quite fit.
