THREAD: Heard about "cultural backwardness" of Gujarat throughout the day. Let's share some interesting facts.

When world was facing WWII, there was Gujarati king Maharaja Digvijaysinhji who gave refuge to 300 Polish kids in his palace of Balachadi. (1/n)
He treated them well and taught them for free. He hired Christian priest to give religious education.

On the honour of Maharaj, Warsaw, Poland has square namely "Good Maharaja square".

In 2016, Polish parliament passed animous resolution to give respect:poland.pl/history/histor…
Then there was another Maharaja namely Krishnakumarsinhji of Bhavanagar. He gave Gir bull 'Krishna' from his farm to Brazil.

That bull was behind White revolution in Brazil.

As an honour, Brazil issued stamp and coin featuring crossbreed. (3/n)
Gujaratis were too much "culturally backward".

So, Zanzibar government and East African currency board used to have Gujarati language on currency notes. (4/n)
One more example of "cultural backwardness".

This king Bhagavadsinhji made education compulsory and free in his Gondal state for all.

He was scholar, he collected and published first Gujarati encyclopedia which included Gujarati to Gujarati dictionary. (5/n)
Here, comes one more example.

Vijayarajaji, King of Kutch, on the advice of Mahatma Gandhi, donated 61sqkm area for settlement of Hindu Sindhis.

Today, that place is Adipur/Gandhidham. (6/n)
These are few examples of "cultural backwardness".

I have proud on my state, ethnicity, heritage and language; it is natural. Jai Jai Garvi Gujarat.
