The race issue has finally gotten to hot, and some republicans are starting to scramble, but not nearly enough of them and without nearly enough urgency.
The devout racists of early US history lost a civil war almost 160 years ago. It's ironic that they called it the "War of Northern Aggression," when they were the ones who fired the first shots.
Since that time their "movement" has run a bunch of insurgencies, racist jihads, and guerilla wars on race, resentment, and victimization. Those included (but aren't limited) to Jim Crow, The Southern Strategy, neo-fascism, the tea party movement, the alt-right, and QAnon.
For years they have been clutching their guns and Bibles, declaring salvation through the second amendment, and preparing for the great race war to end all race wars. A second great civil war would then ensue delivering them from government oppression.
(It seems almost quaint now to realize that America had become completely up in arms when President Barrack Obama accurately made a similar but far less detailed observation just about a decade ago.)
Then suddenly something unexpected happened. An unarmed person was murdered on the street by a group of militants, arrogant cops.
It was far from the first time it had occurred, but there was something about the hubris, self-righteousness, brazenness, and nonchalance captured in the video recorded murder that got everyone's attention.
And the knowing look of the murders that they had no expectation of any consequences forthcoming caused something to snap in the psyche of America.
That snap resulted in a diverse, multicultural, multigenerational, upheaval against racism on the streets of America the likes of which had never been seen.
In response, those multicultural cadres of protesters in Washington and across the nation were met with unnecessary and disproportionate force and violence.
Many whites who had never understood or could even conceive of police brutality finally experienced it for themselves firsthand. Sh!t had gotten real. Everything had changed, finally maybe forever.

But for as terrified as politicians are of losing money from donors, it appears they are becoming even more afraid of the ever-increasing numbers of white people openly protesting and supporting black and other minorities against racism.
That represents the beginning of a paradigm shift, and perhaps transformational change in America.
So while the so-called liberal snowflakes are getting busy developing policy, writing legislation and even going out into the crows with the marchers, on the other hand, conservative politicians are beginning to seek refuge and run away. Some are trying to hide and dig in.
A small number are recognizing that the status quo is unsustainable and that the people will not be denied. They are grappling with making a what they perceive as a tough choice. A smaller number still understand that it is time for a change.
Importantly, the ones who are beginning to understand that know that they do not want to be seen in history as the 21st Century's Neo-confederacy.
As for the rest who refuse to come to terms with a changing America, they may be in the process of losing the second US Civil War without a shot being fired.
How humiliating is that?
