The number of out-of-school girls has dropped from 13.75 million in 2012-13 to 12.16 million in 2016-17. Although the number of out of school girls has reduced over the years, 49% of the girls in the age group of 5-16 years still remain out of school. #InvestInGirlsEdu

Pakistan at the secondary level has an average student-teacher ratio of 20 in the urban and 15 at the rural areas. This ratio is better than the primary level because of the decline in enrollment in the secondary instead of large number teachers. #InvestInGirlsEdu
Some indicators of girls dropping out of schools are socio-economic conditions, number of children in the family, socio-cultural norms, population density of the area, food deficiency, medical and labor market conditions. #InvestInGirlsEdu
Even though the number of girls’ secondary schools is higher in rural areas, the post-primary dropout rate is also much sharper.  for every 100 girls enrolled in Grade One of urban areas 77 of them complete Grade 10. #InvestInGirlsEdu
Child marriages is a major reason of girls unable to complete their basic education of at least 12 years. #InvestInGirlsEdu
The retention rate of the girls’ enrolled in the schools must be monitored and increased to ensure more girls are able to complete their basic education especially from the rural areas. #InvestInGirlsEdu
According to Article 25-A, course books must be provided students free of cost. In Addition, providing school uniform to students will encourage parents to send their daughters to schools and reduce dropouts. #InvestInGirlsEdu
The state must ensure provision of nutritional support in schools by mandating snack boxes – This will not only be an important incentive for children coming from impoverished households but will also improve the student’s learning. #InvestInGirlsEdu
The state must ensure the inclusion of children living with disabilities. The provision of medical devices, especially to facilitate girls living with disabilities is important to ensure that no girl is left behind. #InvestInGirlsEdu
The state must ensure provision of functional toilets. All missing facilities are important but as a first step the provision of functional toilets in all schools keeping the specific hygiene requirements of adolescent girls in mind should be ensured. #InvestInGirlsEdu
