I don’t know how to tell you this, but one of the only ways we get past this moment of crisis and white supremacy is to stop worrying over whether large, complex issues and the words to describe them make white people uncomfortable.

That’s how we got here.
Words matter. They determine how we think about things, how we interpret the world and our politics.

Continuing to water down issues of white supremacy and economic inequality in order to make white people more comfortable dilutes their power and restricts potential for change.
American liberalism and progressive movements have been hindered by a constant fear that white people will reject honest, uncomfortable, necessary discussions.

Maybe it's time to have those honest, uncomfortable, necessary discussions.

Maybe it's time to stop catering.
I talked about this on today's podcast. For decades now the American Right has dominated linguistic spaces and defined debate.

They've had a stranglehold on that and with it our political system.

That's shifting. It's not time to pull back but push harder.
America's white supremacy infection has been enabled and empowered by white paranoia and the desperate need for white comfort. It's built upon quiet complicity.

You cannot destroy white supremacy by kowtowing to the fears of white people. It is a self-defeating endeavor.
